Here is an idea, one that I actually want to work on. Why not use Flash to do distributed computing? Flash runs on the users computer and doesn't really rely on the server CPU. Users could download packs of data to crunch, stay on the site for 2 minutes, and then be on their way. It wouldn't do as much as the PS3 or regular CPU, but it would be an interesting exercise in the power of Flash as a distributed platform.
Imagine watching a Homestar Runner cartoon and in the background your computer is crunching numbers to help science progress. Its something I am going to experiment with at least. If you would like to help, let me know!
